The Lemosho Route is one of the most scenic and rewarding ways to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, offering spectacular landscapes, excellent acclimatization, and a high summit success rate. This route approaches the mountain from the west and is known for its low traffic during the early days, making it ideal for trekkers seeking a quieter and more immersive wilderness experience.
The trek begins in lush rainforest at the Lemosho Glades, an area rich in wildlife such as buffalo, elephants, and antelope. For safety, groups may be accompanied by an armed ranger on the first day. As the route progresses, the scenery transitions from dense forest to expansive moorlands, alpine desert, and finally to the icy summit of Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa.
The 9-day Lemosho itinerary allows for gradual altitude gain and includes an additional acclimatization day at Barranco Camp, significantly improving comfort and summit success. This route is best suited for adventurous trekkers with good fitness levels and some hiking experience, though determined first-time climbers can also succeed with proper preparation.
With Great Journey Safaris, you’ll be supported by experienced mountain guides, professional crew, quality camping equipment, and carefully planned daily stages to ensure a safe, enjoyable, and unforgettable Kilimanjaro adventure.
If you have selected optional airport transfers, our team will meet you at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport and transfer you to your hotel in Moshi.
Later in the day, you will attend a pre-trek briefing with your mountain guide. During this session, we will review the itinerary, conduct a full equipment check, and arrange rental gear if needed. We recommend arriving at least one day before the trek begins to rest and prepare.
Meals: Dinner (depending on hotel plan)
After breakfast and a final briefing, drive to Londorossi Park Gate (approx. 3 hours) for registration. From there, a 4WD track leads to the Lemosho Glades, where the trek officially begins.

Posted on Road37362608253Verified Kilimanjaro Last year, my husband and I did one of the most amazing adventure of our lives - we climbed Mount Kilimanjaro! It was a dream we had for a long time, and finally making it to the top was something we’ll never forget. The climb was challenging and we did reach the summit definitely thank to our awesome guides. Without them and the rest of the crew, we wouldn't have made it! Our team was amazing, they were all so kind, patient and experienced - they truly made all the difference. They knew when to push us and when to let us rest. They kept us motivated and safe, and always had a smile or a joke ready to lift our spirits. If you're thinking about doing something epic - go for it! Kilimanjaro tested us, inspired us and gave us memories we’ll carry forever.Posted on Sara AVerified Mount Meru Dream Just got back from climbing Mount Meru in Tanzania, and wow — what a trip. This experience will stay with me forever. Mount Meru isn’t as famous as Kilimanjaro and honestly it was super cool. No other tourists, way more peace, and still a crazy beautiful and challenging climb. It’s 4,566 meters high, so it’s no joke, but the route is stunning from start to finish. We started in thick rainforest, surrounded by monkeys and birds, then climbed into alpine more landscapes with insane views. The summit day was tough but also not so tough, de arrived to the top just as the sun came up.. Unreal. Kilimanjaro off in the distance, clouds below us, golden light everywhere. It felt like another planet. The team I had, Amos and his guys, were absolute stars. Super friendly, knew every inch of the mountain, and kept the vibes high even when my legs were screaming. Always keeping me safe and confident. If you’re thinking of climbing in Tanzania, wether mount Meru or Kilimanjaro, well I can’t recommend this team enough. Beautiful experienced human beings. They will make sure you have the best time! Missing Tanzania a lot already!Posted on Bruno JVerified The best experience in kilimanjaro Me and my wife did the kilimanjaro treck with them and it was the best week!
